Ghana’s Energy ,Oil and Gas industry continues to get government attention
2007, JOINING THE LEAGUE

In 2007 Kosmos Energy found the first commercial quantities of Oil in Ghana which ushered the West African Nation to the league of Oil and gas producers on the Continent. Since then ,there have been several major discoveries and Multinationals trooping in this Sector. Compared to giant Oil Producing states like Nigeria and Angola, Ghana is only a small producer with only 214,000 barrels of Oil per day (bopd) . In contrast to these states, Ghana‘s Industry has seen a significantly steady advancement the past decade despite a drop of international Oil Prices.

Advancement in the Downstream sector

In 2005, the government embarked on the deregulation of the Sector which made it possible for Private companies to participate in Bulk Distribution, Trading, Transportation refining and other ancillary activities. This sector has seen an exponential expansion since the deregulation and still holds promising investment potential. Compared to the offshore sector, this is relatively low risk. Continued Growth in the Offshore industry

Ghana has four sedimentary Basins, the Western Basin which is currently the most Active includes the Tano and Cape three Points blocks which has The TEN fields located in the Tano block and the Jubilee field on the Cape three field.The second is the Central basin where the long standing Saltpond field is located.The third is the Eastern Basin which consists of Accra and Keta Blocks.The last is the Voltaian Basin which covers 40 percent of Ghana‘s landmass and is the most Promising site for onshore extraction. New discoveries coming onstream on the Cape three Points block by a Norwegian Start-up AKER, projects the doubling of Output to 400,000 bopd in 2023 according to the Finance Minister. Aker has already submitted a $4.4 Billion development plan of its Pecan fields which holds a potential of 600,000 to 1 million barrels of Oil. This young Oil sector is helping to position Ghana as one of the fastest growing economies in Africa with forecasts of 8.8% in 2020.
